Privacy and safety
Two separate things are covered here. What happens to what you and your student tell me during an engagement, and what this website itself does. They have different answers.
This website
This site loads one script from another company, Partnero, which runs Overlap's referral program. It is there so that a family who arrives through someone's referral link is credited to the person who sent them.
That script stores a cookie in your browser on every visit, which lasts up to ten years, so Partnero can recognize the same browser later. If you arrive through a referral link, it also stores which link brought you and tells Partnero the page you landed on. Overlap sets no other cookies and runs no analytics of its own.
There is no form on it, no account to create, and nothing to sign up for, so there is nothing here for you to fill in and nothing for me to store.
One thing is worth being exact about, because a privacy page that overstates itself is worth nothing. The company that serves this page keeps ordinary web server logs, which record an IP address for every visit, as every website on the internet does. That is not something I set up and it is not something this site adds. If you want to reach me, the only way this site offers is an email address you choose to write to.
Where your answers actually live
The forms are not on this website. They run on Tally, a form company, and your answers and your student's sit on Tally's servers in Europe until I take them off. Your emails to me, and the report when I send it, sit in my mailbox at bryan@overlap.report, which is Google Workspace. The finished report is kept on an encrypted drive in my house, backed up to a second drive here. Payment will go through Stripe, a payment company, so your card details will go to them and not to me.
There is one more place, and it is the one worth asking about first. I use an AI tool, Claude, made by Anthropic. It drafts the whole report from your answers, so the answers go to that company too, and I rewrite and check every page before it reaches you. Apart from working copies on my computer, which I clear every week, those five are everywhere anything you send exists. When you ask me to delete your family's forms and report, I delete them everywhere I hold them and tell you when it is done. If you do not ask, I delete them 90 days after I send the final report, counting any revision. Either way I keep a separate record of your consent, your payment and the key dates on the encrypted drive, without your answers or the report. Two things are not mine to promise. I do not control those companies' own backups. And if the AI company's automated safety systems ever flag a conversation as breaking their rules, that company keeps it for up to two years whatever I do, and their terms do not say I would be told.
Overlap works only with students 13 and older, and does not currently work with families in Washington state.
What is confidential, and what is not
What you tell me about money, health, or the household never appears in anything your student reads. What you say you hope for them does appear, marked clearly as yours, next to what they said they want.
It does not run both ways, and your student is told so on their form before they answer a single question. The report is my read of your student and it quotes what they wrote to show how I got there, so what they write does reach you.
Three things bound that. Nothing your student writes reaches you outside the report, unless the law requires it. And the report lands with them at the same moment it lands with you, with the red pen on my read of them. If your student is 18 or older, they decide whether you receive it, whoever pays, and you will know that before you pay.
What I would tell you outside the report
If your student is under 18 and writes something that suggests they may not be safe, I will tell you, and I tell them up front that I would. Apart from what the law requires, that is the only thing I would tell you that is not in the report, and it is stated on their form before they start.
This is not a monitored crisis service.
The forms are not watched continuously, and nobody is waiting for an alert. Never use them to ask for help in an emergency. If your student needs someone now, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, at any time. If they are in immediate danger, call 911.
Nothing is published without asking you
I do not publish anything you or your student writes without asking you first, in writing, for that specific use. Saying no does not change anything about what you get. Ask me to delete your family's forms and report at any time and I will, and I will confirm when it is done. Where that sits, and what I cannot promise about it, is set out above.
Nothing is required of you beyond the intake
Paying families owe me nothing but the intake. No survey or referral is any part of the price. Testimony is appreciated but not required.
